Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist for NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has a BA degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career in the field of radio and television reporter in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. 1996, she was hired by WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). In Washington she was named general reporter by NBC News two year later. The year 1981 saw her begin covering the White House and became chief congressional correspondent in 1988. She was promoted to Chief White House correspondent in 1992 as well as chief foreign correspondent of NBC News in 1994. Mitchell has appeared in the TV news program Meet the Press as a panelist and host. Mitchell participated on a panel during the 1988 debates among George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan who was former chairman at Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell received the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and in 2004 she was awarded the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) honored Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contributions to the protection for First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell initially covered the White House for NBC News from 1981-1988 during both of Ronald Reagan's terms as President. Mitchell was a reporter on a range of important stories including the Iran-Contra scandal as well as budget tax reforms and the arms control. Mitchell travelled together with Ronald Reagan on numerous occasions for summits, and to discuss issues including that of the Iran Contra controversy.
